Why is my event being added to the wrong calendar service?
This help doc explains why an event might be added to the wrong calendar app and how to resolve that.
If an event is being added to a different calendar than the one chosen by the user, it is likely due to the device’s default calendar settings. When a user clicks an "Add to Calendar" button or link, they can select from multiple calendar services, such as Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook.
However, if a different calendar service is automatically chosen (for example, Google Calendar instead of Apple Calendar), this happens because the device is set to open all .ics files (event files) with a specific default calendar app. This means that even if a user selects "Add to Apple Calendar," the device will open the event in Google Calendar if Google Calendar has been set as the default app for .ics files.
To fix this, the user needs to change their default calendar settings on their device.
Here’s how:
- Check the Default Calendar App Setting: Go to the device's settings menu and locate the section for default apps or default calendar app.
- Update the Default Calendar: Select the calendar app you would like to set as the default for .ics files (such as Apple Calendar or Outlook).
- Test the "Add to Calendar" Link Again: After updating the default calendar, click on the "Add to Calendar" link to confirm that the event is now added to the correct calendar.
This solution ensures that the selected calendar service opens the event as expected, without being overridden by the device's default settings.
